Video Premiere: Transatlantic – Shine
Prog is proud to premiere the first-ever video by supergroup Transatlantic – view Shine below.
It’s taken from upcoming fourth album Kaleidoscope, which becomes available for pre-order via InsideOut on December 27. The follow-up to 2009′s The Whirlwind was recorded in May after members Neal Morse, Mike Portnoy and Roine Stolt gathered for a European double-header tour starring the Neal Morse Band and The Flower Kings.
Stolt has recalled the video shoot exclusively for Prog. He explains: “September 4, 6am in hotel toilet in London with stomach flu. Or wait – it was the Prog Awards last night. Too much to drink? Food poisoning? It’s a better option to say I had a monumental hangover as the true bad boy of prog I am. That’ll give me more cred. That’ll get me more fans.
“A nightmarish long drive to the chapel where we will film; finding it to be a really cool location, I can sense it’s gonna look great. The sun is shining and I realise we’re in a sort of ‘retirement area’ neighbourhood. Very London, very cool – I feel like a Beatle.
“Taking all the sickness in, I still felt it’s a good day, and thankfully getting better by the hour. I’m also thankful that the song itself almost gets better with each run through.
“Now, I don’t recommend improvising too much on your guitar solo or making it too complicated if there’s the prospect of doing a video later. My small Swedish Neanderthal brain cannot recreate the genius of Master Stolt – it’s too many frikkin’ notes and the bends and too angular, or plain weird. I wish I was Keith Richards, Neil Young or Chuck Berry.
“Long day, many takes, lunch, stomach feeling better. Sun goes down, back to the hotel and dinner with Mr Morse, nice chat about music, God and life. Good night’s sleep then heading home to the land of the Vikings. Just another day in an insanely rich, famous and iconic rock star‘s life. Enjoy the ride…”
Transatlantic appear as part of Portnoy’s Progressive Nation At Sea cruise in February, and play London’s Forum on March 12 as part of an extensive European tour.
