Watch: Carl Palmer Winning Virtuoso – Prog Awards 2012
This award is for the musician who’s the cream of the crop with their musical skill – be it a tub-thumper, a singer, keyboard king or guitar slinger. Being prog, it could even be the nose flute.
Last year, though, the award went to Mr Carl Palmer.
Making a name for himself in The Crazy World Of Arthur Brown, Carl soon found himself rising through the ranks of highly skilled sought-after rock drummers, finally teaming up with the men who ruled the stadiums of the world as Emerson, Lake & Palmer. Equally adept at rock, jazz, classical or avant percussion, his is a journey that continues, with Asia and The Carl Palmer Band still going strong. Carl told us “It’s fantastic, I always wanted to be a virtuoso in the UK, it’s the home of prog.” We were proud to oblige, sir!
See Carl accept his gong – presented by Keith Emerson – here.
Voting for this year’s awards closes tomorrow, Wednesday August 14, so if you’ve yet to do so, you can still cast your votes in other categories by heading to the awards website.
