Mike Portnoy Hails Dream Theater Fan Remix
Former Dream Theater drummer Mike Portnoy has hailed a fan remix of the band’s Twelve-step Suite. Hear it below.
The hour-long reinterpretation features five DT songs which appeared across five albums: The Glass Prison from Six Degrees Of Inner Turbulence; This Dying Soul from Train Of Thought; The Root Of All Evil from Octavarium; Repentance from Systematic Chaos; and The Shattered Fortress from Black Clouds And Silver Linings.
Portnoy, who left the band in 2010, wrote the lyrics to all five tracks, based on his experience of alcoholism.
He says in the YouTube comment section below the stream: “It’s like my life flashing before my eyes! Will always be very proud of my legacy with the band. I still hope to someday perform this suite in its entirely live on stage, as that was always my intention. Thanks for making this!”
Last year he revealed that, had he not quit DT, their next tour would have included the Twelve-step Suite in full. The band are working on their 12th studio album with new drummer Mike Mangini.
Meanwhile, Portnoy will tour Europe as part of the Neal Morse Band along with The Flower Kings, delivering an improvisational show which will conclude with a finale of Transatlantic songs. They appear at the Electric Ballroom, London, on March 7 in a Prog-sponsored event, and at the Slade Rooms, Wolverhampton, on March 8.
