Magic Pie Name New Keyboardist
Norwegian prog rock band Magic Pie have confirmed Erling Henanger as their new keyboardist, in place of Gilbert Marshall, who quit last month.
Henanger was auditioned alongside a number of other candidates but the band found they quickly connected with him strongly.
And they’ve already started work on material which will form the follow-up to 2011 album The Suffering Joy.
Magic Pie say: “It is with great pleasure we announce that the hunt for a new keyboard wizard is over. After auditioning several skilled musicians, all the members bonded with Erling.
“Born in 1968 and living in Fredrikstad, Norway, he plays most kinds of keys and comes from a background of music in bands and theatre. He also possesses a great voice.
“The new lineup is ready to start the new era of Magic Pie. The band hope to get out there to show fans what a fantastic musician they have found in Erling.”
Marshall announced his departure in mid-August, saying: “I have come to an understanding that I am at a stage where I need to focus on several other important parts of my life.
“The band is planning more commitments for the next couple of years, and for various reasons, I am not in the position to make the same commitments and engagement with the band in this as the other MP members.
“it is profoundly sad for me after all these years. It has been one fun and fierce rollercoaster ride. I truly appreciate all the support, warmth and friendship.”
He plans to continue his musical career.
