Live Hillage From 1979 To Be Released
Steve Hillage has just released a live recording from 1979. Entitled Steve Hillage – Live In England 1979 and is available through Gonzo Multimedia UK. This is a CD/DVD set.
Joining Hillage are Miquette Giraudy (synthesiser, vocals), John McKenzie (bass, vocals), Andy Anderson (drums) and Dave Stewart (second guitar). It’s the same line-up responsible for some of the live tracks, and all of the studio side, on 1979’s Live Herald album.
The track listing for both the CD and DVD is as follows: Salmon Song, Unzipping The Zype, Hurdy Gurdy Man, 1988 Activator, Unidentified (Flying Being), It’s All Too Much and Radio And Light In The Sky. There’s also an interview with Hillage and Giraudy from 2006.
The CD has the bonus tracks Hurdy Gurdy Glissando and Electrick Gypsie, recorded in 1977 on the tour to promote the 1976 album L. The DVD also includes the promo clips for Radio and Light In The Sky, from the 1977 album Motivation Radio.
Says Hillage: “This was a great performance from another fine period of my band in the late 70s, with John McKenzie on bass and Andy Anderson on drums”.
This is a busy time for Hillage. His band System 7 will be releasing an album in collaboration with Japanese progressive psych jam outfit ROVO in September. And he’s also working on material for a planned Steve Hillage Band album, which should be released in the next couple of years.
