Field Music Gain Mercury Prize Nomination
Prog Magazine favourites Field Music’s fourth album, Plumb, has been nominated for this year’s Mercury Prize.
They’re delighted to have been named alongside Alt-J, Django Django, Richard Hawley, Ben Howard, Michael Kiwanuka, Lianne La Havas, Sam Lee, the Maccabees, Plan B, Roller Trio and Jesse Ware – but they’re not holding their breath for a win.
Peter and David Brewis’ most recent work is described as “a caustic seam of ambivalence towards whatever passes for aspiration and sincerity in our hyper-mediated and mock-hysterical times.”
David tells Prog: “We’d honestly given up any thoughts about getting a nomination long, long ago, so it’s a very nice surprise.
“I don’t think we’ve got a cat in hell’s chance of winning the thing, and I’m not even sure whether there’s any untapped audience left for us to reach.
“But at least we’ll get to swan around feeling good about ourselves for a few weeks, and we can celebrate a bit on our tour in October.”
