Exclusive Video: Mikael Akerfeldt Fears Opeth Acoustic Show
Opeth mainman Mikael Akerfeldt admits he’s “excited and a bit nervous” over the band’s acoustic show at London’s Union Chapel in November.
The stop on Opeth’s UK tour will be their first-ever toned-down set, although they’re already planning to re-use the format during a Swedish tour the following month.
In an exclusive video for Prog Magazine – made during his photoshoot for the cover of our next edition – Akerfeldt explains where the idea came from, why it appealed to him, and why he chose Anathema to support his band on their upcoming UK tour.
He says: “This is an odd thing – it makes me a bit excited and a bit nervous. I want to run away and hide.
“I’m not sure if it’s going to be unplugged – it’s going to be laid back. Our discography is quite diverse so we can do things like that. We figure, why not?”
Prog Magazine No.30 is published on September 26 with Akerfeldt on the cover, plus features on the inaugural Prog Awards, Frank Zappa, Magma, The Reasoning and Touchstone, Threshold and more. Order online here or call 0844 848 2852 for UK purchases or +44 1604 251 045 for international purchases.
