Exclusive! Steve Hillage Ticket Offer For Prog Readers!!
Steve Hillage returns to active duty next month with the release of a brand new EP, Hinotori, next month and a full-blown album, Phoenix Rising in September. The new music sees Hillage, under the guise of his prog/trance outfit System 7, working with noted Japanese prog rock outfit Rovo in an attempt by Hillage to meld his work as a rock guitarist and a trance music producer.
More importantly, Hillage and Rovo will be playing live dates in march 2014, and Prog readers get privileged access to tickets before they go on sale to the general public. The gigs will take place at Manchester’s Ritz on March 7 and London’s Shepherds Bush Empire on March 8 and tickets go on sale to the general public this Friday, May 31. However prog readers can purchase their tickets as of now from www.musicglue.com/rovoandsystem7. Tickets are priced £20 for the Manchester show and for London, standing tickets are priced £25 and seated tickets for £27. Every ticket purchase includes a free 5-track mp3 download of the forthcoming Hinotori.
“I still like playing rock guitar,” says Hillage. “I enjoyed the two tours we did with Gong and I enjoyed the Steve Hillage Band set we did as part of that on the 2009 tour. But I’m not that interested in devoting all my energy into playing music I did 30 or 40 years ago. I’m a hungry, restless sort of artist, really. And by sheer accident this project has given me an amazing opportunity to combine my work as a rock lead guitarist and a techno musical producer. I’m very happy about it.”
The Hinotori EP will be released on the G-Wave label on June 3, as a digital download and also as a limited edition CD. The Phoenix Rising album will be released on G-Wave on September 23. The album also features a cover of the Mahavishnu Orchestra’s Meeting Of The Spirits.
There’s a longer interview with Hillage in the new issue of Prog magazine, on sale tomorrow. And there will be a full-blown feature in a future issue of Prog.
