Exclusive Music: Symphonic Theater Of Dreams – Beneath The Surface
Prog Magazine is proud to premiere Beneath The Surface by Symphonic Theater Of Dreams. Hear the track below.
It’s taken from the Polish collective’s self-titled orchestral tribute to Dream Theater, which has gained approval from the band itself, with keyboardist Jordan Rudess saying: “It’s an honour for us to have these incredibly talented musicians dedicating themselves with such passion to the music we have written. The orchestrations are really well done – if you are a fan of Dream Theater’s music you will certainly enjoy them.”
Symphonic Theater Of Dreams was the brainchild of Michal Mierzejewski, who tells Prog: “After years of listening to Dream Theater I decided to create a few demos of symphonic arrangements on computer. I uploaded them to YouTube, and when Mike Portnoy shared them, and Jordan wrote me a private message, I decided to develop the idea.”
It wasn’t until 2011 that Mierzejewski found ways to overcome the problems of cost and time. In the end over 80 people from around the world contributed to the work, which was released last month.
“Scores aren’t easy,” he says. “The arrangements are very demanding. We needed many hours to get everything right. But when we got the support of Dream Theater it was an amazing and unimaginable achievement.”
The orchestra performed in Poland last year and aim to appear live again, while Mierzejewski is considering the possibility of a second album.
