Cult Of Luna Return With Album And Tour
Cult Of Luna will release their sixth album Vertikal next year – their first record in five years.
The Swedish outfit tour the UK in January as part of a European trek in support of the album, which they say is influenced by the “hypnotic background of machinery and repetition” in Fritz Lang’s 1927 movie Metropolis.
Cult Of Luna say: “Before we started writing we were keen to find a theme that, in a very direct way, could be shown through the music. We developed clear structures – very linear, refusing to over-complicate the writing process.”
The band haven’t played live since 2010, with a one-off show in July called off at the last minute due to transport problems. They explain: “We realise fans have been waiting for us to return to the live arena properly. But we were not keen on playing shows until we had the new material ready.
“There have been changes, and we wanted to come back on our own terms with something completely new.”
Vertikal will be released at the end of January following a European tour. In addition to the dates below, they’ll appear at the Roadburn Festival in Tilburg, Netherlands, on April 20, and the Asymmetry Festival in Wroclaw, Poland, on May 3.
